Get the Right Die-Line for Your Bottle

A template shows the trim line, the bleed and the safe area for your exact label. The correct one depends on the bottle, the label size, the finish and the line that will run your order, so we send it to you directly instead of posting generic files. Pick your bottle and tell us a little about the project below.

File specs

How to Prepare Your Artwork

Set your file up this way and your proof should come back right the first time. Not sure about something? Send what you have and we'll prep it for free.

File types

AI, EPS, SVG or PDF. Vector files are best. High-resolution PNG, JPG, PSD or TIFF work for photos and raster art.

Resolution

300 dpi or higher at the final printed size for any photo or flattened element.

Color

CMYK. Convert RGB files before sending. Need an exact brand color? Give us the Pantone (PMS) or CMYK values and we'll match it.

Bleed

1/16" to 1/8" on each side. Run background color and images past the trim line to the bleed edge marked on your template.

Safe area

Keep logos and text inside it. Anything outside the safe line can be trimmed or land on the seam.

Fonts

Outline all type, or include the font files. Live text without the fonts can print in a substitute typeface.

Label sizes

2" × 8" on every bottle, 4" × 8" on the 16.9 oz bullet. A small gap is left where the label ends meet so it stays flat.

Smallest text

7 pt minimum for anything people need to read. Smaller type can print, but it gets hard to read on a curved bottle.

Required info

Leave a little room on the back. We add the bottler statement, net contents and any deposit text during proofing.

Designing for Each Label Finish

Full-Color

Edge-to-edge CMYK printing that handles photos, gradients and solid brand colors. Build your art to the full template, including bleed.

Ultra-Clear

The label is clear film, so there's no white background behind your design. White and very light elements show against the water instead of a solid color, and we'll review those areas with you on the proof. Make small text slightly larger than you would on a full-color label so it stays readable on clear stock.

3D Line

Printed on both sides of the label so a second image shows through the bottle. Keep the inside layer simple, like a logo mark, a silhouette or a few words, and save fine detail for the outside. Our designers set up both layers for you at no charge; the standard one-time $50 new-artwork setup applies, the same as any finish.

Before You Send Your Files

  • Keep your layers. Please don't flatten the artwork; live layers let us adjust placement on the die-line.
  • List your brand colors. Share Pantone (solid coated) or CMYK values for anything that has to match.
  • Outline text or send fonts. Include every font used if you can't convert type to outlines.
  • Embed or attach images. Linked images that aren't included can't be printed.
  • Check image quality. Every image should be at least 300 ppi at the size it will print.
About on-screen color: every screen shows color a little differently, so your digital proof shows the design and layout accurately but isn't an exact color match for the printed label. If a color must be exact, give us the Pantone code and we'll match it on press.
